Ed Kuepper at the RocKwiz TV show in January 2006

In this second part of the interview with ED KUEPPER about his new album : Jean Lee and the yellow dog, we continue to talk quietly about the new album and his projects for touring in 2008 until walking a little in Ed’s garden trying to record the extraordinary insects who live around his house and who invited themselves to the conversation : the “tsychades” from Brisbane !!! Still a new unexpected connection with Marseille !!

Unuseful to say : try to order this album but with the bonus disc which still is full of new great songs !! Don’t miss the second version of “Skinny Jean” called : “He asked for water and Jean brings him gazoline”…what a sublime title with the incredible voice from Tommy Johnson, a blues singer from 1920!! One day I will play you the original version “Bob ascends the heavenly staircase” Ed sent me at my request to improve my musical knowleges : cool to find such a music teacher !! BTW : More infos about Ed Kuepper on this great site ED KUEPPER FILES

Ed Kuepper with the Kowalski Collective in Oct/Nov 2007 (live pics from Judi Dransfield Kuepper)

ED KUEPPER’s interview about his new album : Jean Lee and the yellow dog at least on Meltingpod !!! Which best present for Christmas could I offer to you ? Ed really took the time to enter in the details of the whole music process during this new album’s conception and why he chose to relate this true story about Jean Lee a prostitute who was the first woman hang in Australia in 1951 ! As always Ed is very sincere and precise and I couldn’t cut anything in his talk. So I proposed to you to listen to that podcast in two parts of 30 mn ! I hope you will appreciate to share with us this interesting conversation, specially those of you who love Ed Kuepper and THE SAINTS : Ed Kuepper formed the Saints with Chris Bailey in the 70’s before starting a long solo carrier until now with sometimes live bands to perform some shows. Right now he is playing with the Kowalski Collective including two long time partners like Jeffrey Wegener on the drums and Peter Oxley at the bass. I played a lot of the album ’s excerpts to illustrate the talk, including Chris Bailey ’s great appearance in one of these songs !!
So MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all on MELTINGPOD !!

Couldn’t be a nicer surprise for me ! Thanks you RocKwiz TV to have shared it on the internet !!

ahaha…and I just found another video sent by Rockwiz TV with Ed’s school friend : Mr Christopher Bailey with his extraordinary new girls band !!!

Update December 17th : I can’t believe it !! The fourth video I found out on this incredible RocKwiz TV show is JIMMY LITTLE (you remember : Buzz and the Jimmy Little Foundation) singing what ?…”the way I made you feel” !!! recorded in March 2005 Jimmy is so good but with a very different interpretation of the same words though !

For the Tatts fans : the third one was Angry Anderson singing “Highway to Hell” with a rocky girl !! We stay in family with RocKwiz…:) and you know what ? Julia Zemiro the nice hostess of this show was born at Aix en Provence, 30 km from Marseille !! French girls rule !!!

Reduced to the silence for too long weeks because some serious material and financial problems (broken laptop at the end with all the sound stuff inside, including ED KUEPPER’s interview about this new album !!) I kept to stay alive on my MYSPACE/MELTINGPOD to spread the music I like…check it ! and add Ed’s songs to your page if you have an account there and if you appreciate him !
I’m so sorry about that missed meeting prepared for long months : I’m trying to fix this bad situation as soon as I can.

Meltingpod Connections :
Thanks to the chicks from WORLDPUNKROCKCHICKSGANG (a group I created on myspace for some gang’s action on the internet) and the boys who played Ed’s songs on their myspace homepage the whole day today; through that way his music was played, saluted and promoted around the world from Sweden, to UK, France and the whole Australia…it was a first test but it’s not bad !
PS : Message from ED : “thats great long live the punkchicksgang !”.

17/08/07 The Saints at the Australian Television tomorrow August 18th 2007 !!

Vendredi, août 17th, 2007

Documentary about the Saints at the Australian Television SBS Saturday August 18th at 08:30 pm !! Great Australian Albums will introduce “with never-before-seen live footage, interviews, photographs and artwork The Saints’ first single “(I’m) Stranded” which burst out of Brisbane, Australia in 1976 as one of the landmark recordings in the punk rock revolution that changed music forever.”

The Saints - telephones

“In the mid-1970s, Queensland was under the thumb of a corrupt, politically repressive government, and the number one enemy of the state was youth. Singer Chris Bailey and guitarist Ed Kuepper met and bonded over a love of music. The Saints brand of loud rock was shunned, so the group took it upon themselves to record their first single. Within weeks, they were the darlings of the international music press. EMI records in London signed the band - the first time an Australian artist had been approached. The Saints were in London at the epicentre of the punk revolution. The group’s individualistic, Australian scepticism alienated them from the fashion-conscious punk rock scene and the band imploded.(From Australia, in English) (Documentary Series) M (L) CC”.

Chris Bailey and Caspar Wijnberg, Ivor Hay and the horn section, The original Saints with Caspar, Ed Kuepper and Chris Bailey…the both school friends together on stage again (pic Judi Dransfield Kuepper).

The Original Saints played their unique reunion show at the Pig City Queensland Music festival for Bastille Day after a 30 years separation and Meltingpod emotionally was with them in Australia !!
The Saints founders Chris Bailey (vocals), Ed Kuepper (guitar) and Ivor Hay (drums) added to their original line-up Caspar Wijnberg The current Saints‘ bass guitarist and a three piece horn section to give a concert like everybody would have dreamed it after their third and ultime last album Prehistoric Sound in 78…
I was in contact with Ed Kuepper for two months and I lived virtually the preparation of the show; he knew as I was disappointed not to be there like a lot of fans too so he sent me two files recorded during the live show with the agreement to play some short extracts : a DVD could be released around the end of the year and he made me the pleasure to give me a spontaneous interview a few days after the show !!
I hope you will appreciate this delicate atention.

Meltingpod Connection : Wo said “PIG CITY” the first ?
I just read on Brisbane Senator Andrew Bartlett’s blog that somebody answered to me when I asked help to find a sponsorship to come to the Pig City Queensland Music Festival where the Saints are performing.
Andrew Stafford, the man wrote the book “Pig City : From the Saints to Savage Garden” answered to me June 4th !!
“Hi Annie
You would need to contact the folks at Queensland Music Festival - go to www.qmf.org.au for contact details, etc. Paul Grabowsky is the artistic director and Erica Hart is also very helpful.”
It’s so cool from you Andrew but unfortunately too late !!!! damnation !!
After a few days I stopped reading that blog…I thought nobody will answer to me : Australian people are nice as I said before !
